Saint Peter's Cemetery is located on the West side of Victoria Road at the foot of Tulip Street. This cemetery was part of the original Dartmouth Common. It is surrounded by Bicentennial School on the North, Dartmouth Common on the East, and the Old Public Cemetery on the South.
Fr. Courtney and Msgr Underwood, former pastors of Saint Peter's, and Fr. Sullivan lie buried in a plot just in from the main gate. Many of Dartmouth's pioneer citizens are buried here. Unfortunately, the cemetery has been frequently vandalized. The damaged headstones testify to this.
In 1990 the Parish co-operated with the former city of Dartmouth in its attempt to reclaim portions of the Dartmouth Common. The cemetery was deeded back to the City with a covenant that it be preserved as a cemetery in perpetuity. The affairs of the cemetery are now administered by the Halifax Regional Municipality.
